Dr Dustin Pomerleau

Dr Dustin Pomerleau is a fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon and medical retina specialist. He is experienced at performing retinal detachment repairs, diabetic vitrectomies, and all forms of macular surgery. He also performs cataract surgery and cares for patients with inflammatory eye disease.

Dr Pomerleau completed his ophthalmology specialist training at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He subsequently completed a medical retina fellowship at Duke University and a vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Alabama. Dr Pomerleau practised in the Northeastern USA for several years before relocating to Australia, where he currently holds consultant posts at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and The Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Dr Pomerleau serves as an investigator in ongoing clinical trials for age-related macular degeneration, as well as pursuing personal research interests in retinal imaging, retinal toxicology, and vitreoretinal surgical outcomes.

Dr Pomerleau is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He is also a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

Dr Nathan Kerr

Dr Nathan Kerr (BHB, MBChB, MD, FRANZCO) is a fellowship-trained glaucoma sub-specialist from Melbourne specialising in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).

Nathan graduated from the University of Auckland with the Senior Prize as a first-class candidate in the Bachelor of Human Biology degree and the Sir Douglas Robb Prize for the most distinguished academic performance in the Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery program.

Dr Kerr was awarded an Alcon scholarship and undertook a two-year glaucoma and optic nerve fellowship where he received a Doctorate of Medicine for his work on gap junction communication and was a finalist for the MacDiarmid Young Scientist of the Year.

Nathan completed his ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital and achieved the top mark in the clinical examination and was the first Australasian ophthalmology trainee to be certified in femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery. Subsequently Nathan undertook a 12-month sub-specialty fellowship in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital.

Dr Kerr was awarded a scholarship from Bayer to undertake a second 12-month glaucoma fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Europe’s pre-eminent eye hospital. Here Nathan trained in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery under the world-renowned MIGS expert Mr Keith Barton.

Nathan is co-editor of MIGS.org, a leading source of patient information on minimally invasive glaucoma surgery created in collaboration with the International Glaucoma Association. Recently Nathan was an invited instructor at the International Society of Glaucoma Surgery wetlab in Switzerland to teach minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.

Dr Trevor Gin

Dr Trevor Gin (MBBS, Med(Ophthal), FRANZCO, FRACS) is an Associate Ophthalmologist at Eye Surgery Associates specialising in Medical Retina.  Dr Gin is also a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in both General Clinic 2 and the Medical Retinal Clinic.  He completed a post graduate Masters degree in experimental diabetic retinopathy and completed a fellowship in retinal diseases with Professor Alan Bird at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

Dr Gin is a fellow at the Centre for Eye Research Australia and is involved in numerous international clinical trials for Medical Retinal Unit and for the Eye and Ear Hospital.  He also has an interest in third world eye disease and has operated in eye camps in Nepal, Vietnam, Kiribati, Nauru, Ethiopia and the peripheral islands of Vanuatu.  He is the Qualification and Education Committee Chairman for the Victorian Ophthalmology Training Program, Chairman of the Selection Panel for the Victorian Ophthalmology Training Program as well as an Examiner for the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. Dr Gin practices general ophthalmology but his main interest is in Medical Retinal Disease.

A/Prof Salmaan Qureshi

Associate Professor Salmaan Qureshi (MBBS(Adel), FRANZCO) is a Principal Associate of Eye Surgery Associates, and Medical Retina Specialist.  He is also Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Centre for Eye Research Australia in the University of Melbourne.  In 2008 he was appointed Editor in Chief of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmology’s journal “Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology“.  He was born in Pakistan and his family moved to Australia in 1971.

He attended the University of Adelaide Medical School graduating in 1991.  His Ophthalmology training was at Flinders Medical Centre, the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Leeds General Infirmary and finally Moorfields Eye Hospital where he was a fellow to Professor Alan Bird.

He serves as a senior consultant in the Medical Retina Service at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital, and co-chairs its weekly Retina Angiogram Meeting with Dr Alex Harper, which he has done for the last 11 years.  He is the current editor of “The Interactive Atlas of Retinal Disease” available on the Apple iPad and iPhone.
