Welcome to the Endocrine Specialist Centre
The Endocrine Specialist Centre was founded in 2000 by Professor Joe Proietto, Professor Jeffrey Zajac and Dr Katherine Bate to create a specialised medical practice which focuses solely on the assessment, treatment, and ongoing care of patients with endocrine disorders.
It has since grown to include 6 highly experienced endocrinologists. All of the ESC doctors are leaders in their field with appointments at The University of Melbourne and The Austin Hospital. Together we cover all endocrine issues in adults including diabetes, weight management, women's and men’s health, transgender and intersex health, osteoporosis, thyroid disease and rarer endocrine disease.

The origins of Eye Surgery Associates go back to before 2000, when a group of like-minded ophthalmologists came together to form an organisation that would provide a comprehensive range of tertiary ophthalmic services. This group believed that they could provide excellence in patient care across the broad range of services by offering both patients and referrers access to a team of highly trained sub-specialists who could both complement each others’ area of expertise and build a relationship with patients that would enable all of their immediate and changing medical and surgical eye care needs to be managed on a long term basis.
ESA is proud to be able to confirm that it has succeeded with this vision, and today can identify many long-term associations with patients and referrers that attest to this. ESA has grown substantially in the intervening years and now has a team of 16 ophthalmologists (having started with four founding members) and more than 25 clinical services and administrative staff meeting the evolving needs of our patients.
Much remains constant in the treatment options available to patients but many new and exciting developments have occurred in the time-frame to date, leading to better healthcare outcomes for our patients. At this clinic we treat children, adults and the elderly. We have a full time practice nurse who assists in care planning, is an immunisation provider and she also runs our wound management service. A pathology collection centre is located on site. We have a dedicated diabetes clinic weekly with a credentialled diabetes educator. We have a mental health clinic weekly with a mental health worker who provides an additional resource to the regular GPs.
